Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge

Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge a member of the prestigious Brazilian organization “Roteiros do Charme” similar to “Relais & Châteaux” is a small and exclusive jungle lodge in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. A choice location front of Anavilhanas, the world’s largest fresh water archipelago, the Lodge is touched by the black waters of the Negro (Black) river. Free of mosquitoes and nested within a vast stretch of untouched rainforest, you will experience the perfect balance between Nature and Comfort, Adventure and Peace. The Anavilhanas Jungle Lodge has been named by the NY Times as “perhaps the most elegant lodging in the Amazon”.

Location: 110 km / 68.3 mi. northwest of Manaus in the Novo Airão region – the right bank of the Negro (Black) river. The Anavilhanas archipelago is considered the fountainhead of the Amazon basin with some 400 islands and an extension of over 90 km / 56 mi. A maze of lakes, rivers and riverbanks home to a rich plant and animal life. Like everything else in the Amazon, the archipelago is directly affected by the water cycles and landscape changes in accordance to the water level. On the dry season, normally from September to December, visitors find beaches of fine white sands on the margins of the islands, as well as sand banks in the middle of the rivers. The high waters season, vast forest areas are flooded, it is the time of the year for a unique experience exploring the forest on canoes. When the waters are at its highest, entire islands are submerged and access to otherwise isolated lakes is open.

Transfer can be either by land or by water and all transport is based in Novo Airão. Transfer from Manaus: cross the river by ferry-boat to the opposite side. From this point, take a van to Novo Airão – 180 km / 112 mi. From Novo Airão, a 15 min. boat transfer to the hotel. Total transfer takes about 3:15 hs. The Novo Airão county is almost the size of Switzerland, 37,500 sq.km / 9 142 899.1143 acres and most activities are focused on culture, tourism and ecology.

The Lodge: 16 deluxe suites equipped with split air-conditioning, box-spring beds, hot and cold water, mini fridge, balcony. These are fitted with split air-conditioning, king size box-spring beds, 32″ LCD TVs, minibars and hairdryers. The lodge is built in a typical Amazonian style on wooden stilts.
