Amazonat Jungle Lodge

The Amazonat Jungle Lodge is 160 km / 99.4 mi. from Manaus, in the midst of the Amazonian rainforest. A private reservation of 5,000 hectares / 12,355 acres with an additional 5,000 hectares under reclamation.

The philosophy of its owner – Jacques van Egeraat defined when he first opened the Amazonat more than 10 years ago, is to do his best in preserving this beautiful and imortant part of the world. Making it accessible to visitors, Jacques’ dream comes true, showing and teaching about the rainforest, its delicate balance and different ecosystems. Through ecotourism the Amazonat opens to local communities a new way of living, instead of farming or logging. It is his way of cooperating with the forest inhabitants to appreciate and understand the importance of conserving their surroundings. Jacques believes that the future lies on education rather than just conservation this is the only way humans will be able to conserve it. People must not only learn that there is more to be gained from a rainforest that is undisturbed once they know how to conserve it.

Location: surrounded by the intriguing biodiversity of an unspoiled ecosystem with abundant wildlife, a choice location far away from any “city” effect and yet still conveniently close to Manaus. Guests’ bathroom is near the main building and works with a manual hand pump. Keronese lamps are used for light. Mosquitoes are seen here for about 2 weeks in April! Insect repellent is recommended for protection. Food is brought from the Lodge and safe drinking mineral water is obtained from a nearby stream.
